Saturday, April 24, 7:30 pm: French and Russian Romantic Treasures: Music of Franck and Rachmaninoff for Cello and Pianofeaturing congregant and pianist David Schane and cellist Jill Rachuy BrindelDavid Schane has degrees from Northwestern University, the Lausanne Conservatory in Switzerland and the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. Mr. Schane's musical credits include many recital and chamber music highlights across the USA and several solo invitations with regional orchestras throughout the years. During the last several years, Mr. Schane has divided most of his time between Switzerland and the United States and been featured in orchestral performances, piano recitals and chamber music programs in Switzerland, including a solo engagement with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne. Currently, David pursues an active professional career in the investment management industry alongside his ongoing musical activities; he and his family are congregants at Rodef Sholom. Jill Rachuy Brindel has been a cellist with the San Francisco Symphony since 1980 and a member of Trio Navarro for more than fifteen years. She studied at Indiana University and Chicago Musical College. She is a private instructor of cello as well as the coach for the cello section of the SFS Youth Orchestra. Dan Nichols, our Artist-in-Residence, returns!
Dan Nichols is one of the most popular and influential Jewish musicians in North America and his music has become an important part of the Reform Jewish movement. His last two albums have garnered critical acclaim and a legion of growing fans. Songs like "L'takein (The Na Na Song)," "B'tzelem Elohim," "Kehilah Kedoshah," and "My Heart is in the East" are some of the most popular songs in Reform Judaism today. As our artist-in-residence this year, Dan will be teaching throughout the congregation - starting with our S'lichot program and service and the men's mikvah the following morning. Dan is a classically trained musician and his versatility and experience as a teacher and songleader will appeal to young and old, in large groups and small gatherings, at Shabbat services and in private homes throughout this next year. On the weekends when Dan is here, he will be assisting our clergy with teen and children's High Holy Day services and programs, First Friday Shabbat services, adult education and religious school. The summer has come to a close. 5771 is nearly upon us. Join us for a night of introspective questioning and a collective look towards the new year. Together we will change the mantels on the Torah to white, we'll sing and we'll reflect back and look ahead to a good year.
