Parents’ night out, sponsored by CRuSTY!

Our local teens will provide an evening of fun and entertainment for your kids while you go out and have a lovely dinner, movie or just hang out sans kids. We will meet at 5:30 pm in the courtyard behind Rodef Sholom. CRuSTY, Congregation Rodef Sholom Temple Youth, is the teen youth group at Rodef Sholom, and your participation in this event will help raise money for CRuSTY’s programming!

Based on the renowned book by Dr. Wendy Mogel, The Blessing of a B Minus: Using Jewish Teachings to Raise Resilient Teenagers, Rabbi Stacy Friedman and Educator Vicky Kelman will lead us in exploring the challenges involved in parenting teenagers.

Aimed at families with children in 6th through 12th grade, this 6 session series will help you find and develop tools that will allow your children to become resilient and self-reliant young adults.




When: 6 Tuesdays, 7 to 9 pm: 1/31, 2/7, 2/14, 2/28, 3/6, 3/13

How much: $36 per parent; $50 for both parents (make checks payable to Women of Rodef Sholom)

About Rabbi Stacy Friedman: Rabbi Friedman, Senior Rabbi at Congregation Rodef Sholom since 2003, was ordained by the Hebrew Union College in 1993. She has served on community boards of the Marin Interfaith Youth Outreach, the Bureau of Jewish Education and the Family Education Task Force of the JCF in San Francisco. Rabbi Friedman sees Judaism as a rich tradition that inspires us to lift each human being and see within them the divine spark. She and her husband are parents of two boys who will soon be teens.

About educator Vicky Kelman:  Vicky Kelman is a Master Jewish educator who specializes in Jewish Family Education. After 15 years at the Bureau of Jewish Education, she is currently an independent consultant. She is a winner of the Covenant Award, a national award for distinguished work in the field of Jewish education.

We light our first candles on December 20 and our last on December 27. This year, our December 23 Friday 6:15 pm Shabbat service is our Chanukah service -- Bring your chanukah menorah and candles and fill our sanctuary with light!

Chanukah-related events programs:

•Sunday, December 11, 12 noon to 3 pm:Rodef Sholom, including our religious school and CRuSTY, our youth group, will be participating in a campus-wide Festival of Lights celebration at the JCC;

Saturday, December 17, 9:30 to 10:15 am: Shabbat Yeladim Chanukah celebration for kids ages 1 to 7

•Wednesday, December 21, 11:30 am: Cantor David Margules will be leading our seniors in singing Chanukah songs at our Z’man L’Vatikim: Time for Seniors luncheon, co-sponsored by the Women of Rodef Sholom.

•NEW THIS YEAR! Wednesday, December 21, 5:30:  Join Cantor David Margules and the Adult B’nai Mitzvah class who will also be hosting our first-ever Chanukah menorah lighting at The Village Shopping Center in Corte Madera – come support your synagogue!

Our Gift Shop, which has a wide selection of gifts and Chanukah-related items, including chanukiyot, gelt & decorations, will be open extended holiday hours for Chanukah:

Extended holiday hours are from December 12 – 23:
•Monday - Thursday, 10 am - 6 pm;
•Friday, 11 am - 3:30 pm; and •Sundays, 9:30 am - 3 pm Sundays

December 26 and 27
•Monday and Tuesday, 10 am – 1 pm.


December 11, 2011

•12 noon-5 pm: Parents' Afternoon Out!
Lunch, movies and games for children 3 to 10. This is a great opportunity to drop off the young ones and have an afternoon to yourselves - shop for the holidays, catch a movie or a nap! We will be in room B-12 on the first floor of Brandeis. Charge is $25.00 per child.
•5-7 pm: our first CRUSTY Nugget Event for kids from 5th through 8th grade. We will have dinner, mixers, crazy games and all kinds of fun. Admission is $10 per kid including dinner. The party takes place in room B-12 on the first floor of Brandeis.

•All proceeds go to support CRuSTY, our temple youth group
•$15 per adult/$10 per senior or kids under 12
•This cost includes 1 bingo card, pasta, salad and a drink. Additional cards made be purchased that night for $1 a card.

CRuSTY is our youth led program affiliated with NFTY, the National Federation Temple Youth – activities include building relationships, creating lifelong Jewish identities, and developing leadership skills through worship and social action.
