Kindergarten - Gan

The Gan program focuses on the symbols, rituals and holidays that are based in the home.  Through play, students become famliiar with Jewish symbols of home and holidays as well as Hebrew letters.  In addition to learning about Shabbat and holidays (chagim), students learn morning and bedtime rituals, names of family members in Hebrew, and concepts such as peace in the home (shalom bayit).  Every child has an opportunity to bring home Shabbat-in-a-box to share with his or her family.  This Shabbat kit contains the basic elements for Friday night (Erev Shabbat) home celebration, such as candles and candlesticks.a Kiddush cup, etc.  In addition, families participate in the "Shabbat in the Home" program with other Gan families.  Parents and children come together several times during the year for Family Education programs.

Consecration - Kabbalat Torah

Kindergarten (Gan) parents and their children are invited to participate in Kabbalat Torah (consecration) during a Friday night service in the fall.  This sweet ceremony welcomes our Gan children who are just beginning their Jewish studies. With the help of their teachers, these young students lead the congregation in the Shema and several special songs. Then, while standing under our community tallit, they receive a blessing from the clergy.  This is a wonderful evening of family and community.
