Exploring Judaism: An Introduction

In-Person and Zoom Options Available. This class will be hybrid. 
This course is currently closed to new registrants.

This course is organized around the three pillars of Judaism mentioned in the Mishnah: Torah, Prayer, and Acts of Loving Kindness/Social Justice. We also cover the Jewish calendar, Shabbat practice, and holidays. This class welcomes beginners and all those looking to (re-)ground themselves in the basics of Judaism.  Email with questions.

Join us as we study stories and commentary from the book of Genesis with an emphasis on contemporary issues and social justice. Each week will tackle a different topic such as economic inequality, climate change, reparations, LGBTQ+ rights and more. We will consult the wisdom of our tradition for guidance and inspiration to imagine more expansive futures for our world. Guest teachers include Rabbi Nikki DeBlosi, Maggid Jhos Singer, Ginna Green, Rev. Paul Mowry and Rabbi Stacy Friedman.

Adult B’nai Mitzvah Class with Cantor David Margules
Thursdays beginning October 28, 6:00–7:30 pm.

Let everyone whose heart so moves them bring the gift of themselves to build Cantor David’s final adult b’nai mitzvah class before he retires. Now is your opportunity to chant from the Torah scroll and teach the congregation from an adult’s perspective. Beginning in October and ending in April just before Passover, come and study your birth portion with a diverse group of seekers.

Rodef Sholom began to follow the seven-year cycle that it takes to complete reading the entire Talmud in January 2020. This year we will continue our study of Talmud with the laws of Rosh Hashanah, Purim, weddings and much more! Beginners welcome. Join at any time!

Beginning Hebrew with Alona Rafael
12 classes—days and times will be determined

We begin with the basics of the Hebrew alphabet, and over the course of 12 weeks, work towards a reading-level understanding of our prayer book. Students will learn to decipher some Hebrew roots and deepen their knowledge of prayers. Cost is $120 plus $25 material fee.
