Two weeks ago, 12 of our Rodef Sholom teens traveled to Washington DC to learn, celebrate, explore, and lobby together with 300 teens from around North America during a weekend sponsored by the Religious Action Center.  Accompanied by Rabbi Lara and co-Confirmation teacher Matt Kahn, our teens came together for four days of advocacy and action. We discussed how the Reform Movement applies Jewish perspectives to mobilize around issues like reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, climate change, Israel, health care, and more. They grappled with our history at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. They ate the famous Georgetown cupcakes and played in the snow. And they ended the trip with visits to the Capitol, where our teens lobbied in the offices of Congressman Huffman, Senator Harris and Senator Feinstein on issues of climate change, refugee resettlement, criminal justice and immigration. Our teens were poised and impressive, and we were proud to have them representat us as they worked to make a difference.

Teens in action:

Adam Schulman, Sophia Brady, Jacob Mandel and Grace Bender speak up about climate change.

Max Sarosi and Miles Elkins talk about refugee resettlement.

Jake Cohen, Lucas Mandel, and Asher Thibeault discuss immigration reform.
