Revisit the history of the American South and the Civil Rights movement. Join Rabbi Elana, Etgar 36 Founder and Director Billy Planer, congregants Marci and Professor Marc Dollinger, and the Rodef Sholom community for four days of discovery, education, and connection. We’ll visit historic sites, meet educators and thought leaders, and explore how our heritage calls us to action. We'll take what we've learned on the road back home and discuss how to apply these lessons to our community advocacy efforts.
At the heart of Rodef Sholom is our shared dedication to social justice. Throughout the years, our community has fought for criminal justice reform, the rights of immigrants, and the pursuit of racial justice and collective liberation. This journey is intended to reignite our focus, providing the context for the work we’ve done while illuminating the path of advocacy and community-building that lies ahead.
We will visit the Equal Justice Initiative Legacy Museum (founded by Bryan Stevenson), Freedom Park, the Rosa Parks Museum, the Martin Luther King Center/Auburn Ave. district, Ebenezer Baptist Church, walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, and the 16th Street Baptist Church.
Etgar 36, is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, which has specialized in civil rights journeys through a Jewish lens for over 20 years.
