Treasures of the Tribe

Treasures of the Tribe is a pilot program to welcome members of our community who are new to living a Jewish life by gifting the ritual objects we no longer use, and the stories we can tell about them, as a heartfelt welcome.

Jewish ritual gives meaning to our lives. Life cycle events, prayer, even a blessing to acknowledge a special moment help define ourselves as Jewish community. In that respect, ritual objects need to be used. Instead of having them sit on our shelves for years and years, let’s put them back into circulation, giving them a new home and a new life.

It’s probably not an exaggeration to say that many of us have our own collection of Jewish ritual objects; candlesticks, kiddish cups, tzedakah boxes, Jewish books, even various forms of Jewish art. Maybe we have even more than we can ever use in our own lives. How about sitting down with your loved ones to find some of those ritual objects or sacred texts that could use a new home?

Once these items have been gathered and inventoried, we invite members of our community who are seeking to deepen their connection to Judaism and are in need of Judaica in their own home to make these objects their own.

Click on the links to the left to view some of the items you can make part of your rituals.

Click here to participate in Treasures of the Tribe and fill out the form describing your item or items. In a short time, we will post the items and their stories on our website, so those interested in either gifting or making this Judaica their own can participate. Email Marci Dollinger with questions about Treasures of the Tribe.
