4:00 PM - 5:00 PMRodef Sholom SanctuarySpecial musical event in the sanctuary at Rodef Sholom on Thursday, June 12 presented by Congregant Steve Machtinger. Performers: Ani Bukujian and Michelle Maruyama, violins; Jenny Douglass and Steven Machtinger, violas; Louella Hasbun, cello.
The event will feature a live performance of Mozart's String Quintet in G minor, K. 516, by members of the Marin Symphony Orchestra and it will be open to all congregants and their guests.
We will begin at 4pm with remarks in which Steve will introduce this four-movement, 35-minute work by outlining his theory of the story it tells. Steve interpreted the second movement of the Quintet as a musical illustration of how the Gates of Prayer are sometimes open and at other times closed, and showed how the hymn-like third movement can be viewed as a memorial service.
