Tisha B'Av: Collective Grieving, Collective Healing

Monday, August 12, 2024 8 Av 5784

7:30 PM - 8:30 PMBeit Midrash, 2nd Floor, Congregation Rodef Sholom

Tisha B’Av, a day of collective mourning in the Jewish calendar year, provides us with an opportunity to gather in community and share our grief. There are some years when Tisha B'Av feels more distant to us in the Reform Jewish world as its observance falls in the middle of summer. But this year, as we continue to grapple with the tragic events of October 7th and its aftermath, our community needs the ritual of Tisha B'Av more than ever.

Traditionally, evening services on Tisha B’Av provide a space to tap into collective grief and mourning and express our sadness at the suffering in the world. The experience of lamenting together creates space for catharsis and healing. The evening will include the traditional chanting of the book of Eicha (the Book of Lamentations) by candlelight and time for guided, personal writing and reflection in our Beit Midrash. All are welcome. To learn more about Tisha B'Av, please click HERE.
